Nurse Aide and Refresher courses scheduled at VGCC Main Campus

Vance-Granville Community College is now registering students for courses that train new Nurse Aides and that help current Nurse Aides continue their careers, both to be held on the college’s main campus in Vance County.

Nurse Aide I (CNA I) training starts first with a required “Introduction to Nurse Aide/Human Resources Development” course, which is free of charge, Monday through Thursday from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m., Jan. 18 through Jan. 26. Completing this course is now a prerequisite to enter CNA I classes at VGCC.

After the introductory course, students will take the Nurse Aide Level I course, also Monday through Thursday from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m., Jan. 30 through April 25. The Nurse Aide I program prepares students to become Certified Nursing Assistants and to take the state CNA certification exam. VGCC’s certification programs offer classroom education, laboratory training, and clinical experiences in local nursing facilities and hospitals. Jobs for CNAs are available at nursing homes, home health care agencies, physicians’ offices and other health-care facilities. To register for the course, a student should bring a Social Security card, a picture ID and a negative TB skin test result.

The cost of this course is $175 plus $25 in fees and the cost of the textbook.

A Nurse Aide I Refresher course will also be offered on Main Campus, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., Feb. 20 through Feb. 29. This course prepares students for the North Carolina Nurse Aide Competency exam and is for students seeking re-listing on the N.C. Nurse Aide Registry. Generally, the participants in this class are students whose previous CNA I certification has lapsed and are seeking reinstatement. Students review the basic concepts and skills of the Nursing Assistant Level I course and learn about the state competency testing procedure.

The cost of the refresher course is $120 plus a $3 campus security/access fee.
