New Teacher Takes Over Ceramics For Fall Semester At VGCC

Carrie Daniels, who promises to share the newest concepts in painting ceramics, will teach the class to be held days and evenings this fall at Vance-Granville Community College.

The 36-hour course will be held on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, beginning Sept. 7, and on Thursdays from 7 to 10 p.m., beginning Sept. 9, in Room 5227 on the college’s main campus. Cost of the class will be $35.

Daniels has studied ceramics about five years with one of the state’s foremost experts in Cary, and she produces pieces commercially at a shop in her home in the Cedar Rock community of Franklin County. She is certified by the Kibble Paint Co. in its new concept of painting with oil paints on ceramics.

“This makes the product really rich looking,” she said.

The class will also deal with staining with acrylics and glazing.

“I will be able to help beginners get started in ceramics or show new concepts or refine the work of people experienced in ceramics,” Daniels said. “This class will have something for everyone, wherever they are in the craft.”

Daniels promises participants will get hands-on experience in cleaning, firing and painting greenware.

Daniels said the timing of this class is perfect for people who want to make items for Christmas.
