New Office Assistant Daytime Classes Begin Oct. 24 on VGCC Main Campus

Vance-Granville Community College’s Computer Center will offer the comprehensive Office Assistant class on its main campus, beginning Oct. 24

The classes meet Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and will conclude on Dec. 6. Office Assistant includes instruction in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, as well as features and commands used to combine and move work from one program to another.

Additionally, an overview of Windows and Internet usage will be included, making this an ideal class for someone who has little or no computer experience to get a solid foundation in the most popular computer programs in use today, said Ann Behar, Computer Center coordinator. Students will also be taught keyboarding skills, using the popular Mavis Beacon software.

Normally, all these topics are covered in individual classes so this comprehensive class offers an excellent value, Behar said.

There will be practice time built into all class schedules to help those with limited access to a computer have time to practice with an instructor present.

Registration cost of the Office Assistant course is $65, plus a $55 textbook is required. Some financial assistance is available for students who qualify.

The Computer Center continues to offer numerous shorter courses for those who do not have the time to commit to a long class or who just need instruction in a specific topic. These classes include Introduction to Computers, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Electronic Presentations, Web Page Design and many more topics. Courses are offered during the day, in the evenings and on weekends, and many of them are available online.
