New Nurse Aide Cohort program offers opportunities for healthcare career training

Area residents who have an interest in Nurse Aide or related short-term healthcare training programs have a new opportunity available to them.

Vance-Granville Community College is collaborating with partners at the NCWorks Career Center and the local Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) adult contractor, Educational Data Systems Inc. (EDSI), to get students into a Nurse Aide cohort, according to Elvin Curtis, the college’s interim coordinator of Occupational Healthcare, and Kyle Burwell, VGCC’s director of occupational extension and the coordinator of the Human Resources Development (HRD) program.

Participants in this cohort have the opportunity to not only complete the Nurse Aide (CNA) training but also earn an HRD certification, WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate and “Working Smart” certification. WIOA funding will pay the tuition, fees and supplies for qualified students, who will also receive career counseling and support services throughout the entirety of the course from the counselors at NCWorks.

Students can get information on orientation and the process for beginning the Nurse Aide class from NCWorks, Burwell said. Those who are interested may ask about the referral process at their local NCWorks Career Center at 111 Hilltop Village in Oxford or 857 S. Beckford Drive, Suite G, in Henderson.
