Dance Fever: Shag, Line Dancing Classes Coming Soon To VGCC

Vance-Granville Community College has scheduled classes in both the shag and line dancing, taught by professional dance instructors.

Both classes will be taught on Tuesday evenings, back to back, beginning Feb. 3 and running through March 23. Shag classes will be from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by line dancing from 8 to 9. Classes will be in the lower level lobby of Building 9 (Civic Center) on the main campus in Vance County.

Ronnie McMannen of Durham, who has taught dancing before at VGCC, and Anna Jacobs, who teaches in the Greensboro area, will lead both classes. McMannen has taught dancing at several clubs in Raleigh, including the Long Branch and Red’s Beach Club, as well as in Durham and Roxboro. Currently, he and Jacobs are teaching at a club in Hillsborough.

“In shag, we’ll teach the basic steps, how to lead and to follow, and male and female leads,” McMannen said. “In line dancing, we’ll teach the standby Electric Slide, the Cruise, the Tush Push and several others.”

The instructors promise to break down each dance step-by-step. “Dancing is good cardiovascular exercise, and we keep it fun,” McMannen said

Cost of each dancing class is $30. Call VGCC Continuing Education at (252) 738-3316 for more information and to pre-register.
