Art Class At VGCC’s Franklin Campus Plans 2-Day Show & Sale

Students in the Continuing Education art class at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus are sponsoring an Art Show & Sale.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, and from 1 to 5 p.m. the following day.

On display and for sale will be art by members of the art class that meets on Tuesdays at the campus on N.C. 56, just west of Louisburg. Items in the show will include paintings, painted boxes, gourds and glassware, and Christmas ornaments.

About 25-30 students attend the class in the art room of the year-old Biotechnology Building at the Franklin Campus. Pam Danzer recently took over as instructor for the class.

The oldest artist in the class is Peggy Perry, 90, of Louisburg. Mrs. Perry said she began art classes at VGCC in 1981. “Before that I didn’t have time for art,” she said. “Now, I love it, I live for it. I look forward to the Tuesday classes all week.

“I paint for my own amazement, and I usually only paint things I like,” Mrs. Perry said.

New art classes will begin in January at the Franklin Campus.
