Hours for registration are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays.Registration for high school students interested in dual enrollment, also known as “A Step Ahead,” will be held on Aug. 13 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.Orientation has been scheduled for all new curriculum students, who must attend these sessions at times and dates dependent upon the program which students are beginning. Late orientation for College Transfer students will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13 in Room 6102. Late orientation for Education students will be offered at 4 p.m. on Aug. 13 at the same location.Additional orientations are offered at the other VGCC campuses. Contact one of the campus directors for more information.Once students have registered, they may pay, verify payment or charge tuition and fees at the VGCC Business Office on Main Campus (or at the campus where they are enrolled) on the same days as registration and pick up their official schedules. The Main Campus Business Office hours of operation during registration are 8 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, and 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Fridays.Anyone with questions about summer registration at Vance-Granville should contact the college’s main campus at (252) 492-2061 or visit any of the other campuses for more information.FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLEPersons who need financial aid in order to attend Fall Semester classes should visit the Financial Aid Office in Building 8, Room 8215, on Main Campus or at the other campuses as soon as possible. There, they can get information on various types of available assistance.Frank A. Clark, Director of Financial Aid, encourages students who need financial assistance to visit his office immediately and complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). “It is taking longer than it did in past years to process these forms so we advise, ‘the earlier the better’,” Clark said. “Implementation of new computer software will enhance the processing of aid applications, but we ask for patience through this important transition period.” For faster results students are encouraged to apply online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov.Eligible students may receive Pell Grants ranging from $400 to $4,310. If additional help is needed, there are state or college funds for students who qualify. This year, the NC Education Lottery Scholarships will be available for the first time. The Lottery Scholarship, like the NC Community College Grant, is a need-based state grant that will help many students who previously were not eligible for Pell grants. But students must apply to be considered. Completing the FAFSA is all that is required to be considered for these and most other state-sponsored grants. In order for a student to charge tuition, fees, and books to financial aid awards, the application must be processed entirely prior to the registration period.Students should remember to bring a signed copy of their 2006 federal tax return, and/or their parents’ return, when they apply for funding assistance at any of the four campuses.CHILD CARE/OTHER ASSISTANCEStudents with preschool-age children may receive childcare financial assistance, and applications for this help are available at the Financial Aid Office. Assistance is awarded based on the greatest need of applicants as determined by the FAFSA, which must be completed before one can be considered for childcare funding. For more details regarding financial assistance, visit the Financial Aid Office in Room 8215 or call (252) 738-3280.HELP FOR VETERANSMilitary veterans who wish to use their Veterans Administration Education benefits may contact the Financial Aid Office at (252) 738-3421. College costs cannot be charged to the VA, but veterans will receive monthly VA checks if they are approved for study. Veterans should check with Financial Aid to see if the programs in which they are interested are covered.
