An Official Welcome

Vance-Granville Community College officially welcomed Robert A. Miller as president with a luncheon March 9 attended by members of the college Board of Trustees, Endowment Fund Corporation Board of Directors, and college faculty and staff. In the picture above, Phyllis “Button” Brady, VGCC Instructor of the Year, welcomes members of the three groups to the Civic Center. Pictured, from left, are: Brady; President Robert A. Miller; Sibyl C. Leggett, vice chairman of the Endowment Fund board; and Trustee Donald C. Seifert Jr., who chaired the trustees search committee. In their remarks, Seifert explained the process that was followed before the board unanimously voted to name Miller, while Leggett welcomed Miller on behalf of her board. Miller said he recently told a college historian he has the best job in North Carolina for three reasons: the support of a visionary Board of Trustees; an Endowment Fund Board that has led VGCC to have the largest endowment of any community college in the state; and a faculty and staff that is a “special group,” one that he could not have handpicked to have produced a more hardworking, supportive group.
