4 Opportunities at Franklin Campus

VGCC Franklin Campus Offers Substitute Teaching CourseVance-Granville Community College is offering a course to train anyone interested in becoming a substitute teacher. Although classes began on Jan. 16, it is not too late to enroll. Potential students may join the class on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Franklin County Campus, located on N.C. 56 about one mile west of Louisburg. Classes will continue through March 20. “If you’re interested in what’s going on in your schools, and you enjoy working with children, perhaps you should consider becoming a substitute teacher,” said Franklin Campus assistant director Anthony Pope.The course will cover topics such as lesson plans, responsibilities of Substitute Teachers, legal issues, and discipline. This course is on the approved Master Course List for the N.C. Community College System. Participants who successfully complete the class will receive 3.0 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and a Certificate of Completion. Blow, who is an honors graduate of the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute. Chef Blow will teach this mini-course at the Franklin Campus, located on N.C. 56 about one mile west of Louisburg, on Thursday evenings, Jan. 25 through March 1, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in room 5109. The cost of the class will be $30, plus the cost of supplies.Aviation Ground School returns to VGCC Franklin Campus Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus will offer a course for anyone interested in learning how to fly small planes. The aviation ground school class will be held on Thursday evenings, Jan. 25 through April 15, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in room 5215 on the campus, located on N.C. 56 about one mile west of Louisburg. Franklin County Airport Manager Leigh Osborn will teach the course, which can serve as a starting point on the path to becoming a private pilot. Navigation, flight planning, airport operations and weather conditions will be among the many topics covered. The cost of the class is $60, plus the cost of a textbook.VGCC Franklin Campus Helps Public Service Employees learn SpanishA course in the Spanish language specifically designed for public service employees will be offered at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus this spring. The course will be held on Wednesday evenings, Jan. 24 through March 28 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. This course is designed to teach basic Spanish to English-speaking employees such as police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, healthcare workers or any local government personnel who work directly with Hispanic clients who have little or no understanding of English. Emphasis will be placed on oral comprehension, descriptive questioning, and verbal response, among other topics. The cost of the class is $45, plus the cost of a textbook.
