2003 VGCC Faculty & Staff Drive For Endowment Fund Raises A Record $19,000: Here Are The Results And Winners
We’ve had great drives before but this year’s Faculty & Staff Drive for the Endowment Fund is absolutely incredible!
A whopping RECORD $19,000 was raised this year, easily eclipsing the previous record high dollars raised and the goal that was set for this year!
Thanks to our Lucky 13 we got off to a great start with $3,180 in contributions before the drive began! Then, the Early Birds, a total of 10 teams, kicked in another $5,290 by 8:15 a.m. on the first day of the drive. That brought the total to $8,470, more than half way, just 15 minutes into the campaign.
The rest of the 41 teams finished up at noon on the day of the deadline, Oct. 8, to bring us to a record $18,766. (Since the deadline, additional gifts were received to put us at an even $19,000.) The next previous highest total had been $15,090 raised in 2000. Thank you so much for your generosity and your desire to help our students!

ERNESTINE JONES, lead instructor for Cosmetology, won the drawing for $250 in cash. Thanks also to all of the “early birds” for their efforts to get in first: Administration, Business Office I, Business Office II, College Services I, College Services II, Counseling Services, Financial Aid, Marketing, Records and Student Services. Each of the members of these teams got an extra ticket in the drawing for $250.
100% PARTICIPATION: CAROLYN FOSTER’s name was drawn in the drawing for gifts for those teams with 100% participation, and her team (Federal Programs) members won a $10 gift certificate to the VGCC Bookstore. Twenty-two teams were 100% this year.
A good number of you chose to target your contributions to already existing scholarships. Of those contributions, more than $5,600 was designated for existing scholarships honoring Pat Graham and Frank Madigan and in memory of Vesta Manning and Julius Frazier, as well as a proposed scholarship in memory of Tom Long and other scholarships.
On behalf of the students, we say thank you so very much! Thanks also to team captains! Thanks to Ernestine Peace in the Business Office for keeping up with all of the team totals. Thanks to Jo Ellen Nowell for our thermometer updates on the web and in Building 1 each day! Thus far, the faculty and staff of VGCC have contributed more than $176,000 to the Endowment Fund. Thanks to all of you who made this year’s drive such a big success!
