Pharmacy Technology

Program Overview

The program consists of three foundational courses, each designed to function as a stand-alone course. The initial course (PHM 3250A) prepares students for entry-level employment. Each subsequent course builds advanced technical skills and supports preparation for professional certification, as well as career growth and promotion.

Students must first complete PHM 3250A (lecture course). After successful completion, they may choose to enroll in the remaining two courses. Beginning in Spring 2027, two additional advanced stand-alone courses will also be offered. These advanced courses will support certification renewal and IV sterile compounding technician training.

PHM 3250 Course Description

This program is designed to provide instruction in the technical procedures for preparing and dispensing drugs in the hospital and retail settings under supervision of a registered pharmacist. Topics include drug packaging and labeling, out-patient dispensing, hospital dispensing procedures, controlled substance procedures, inventory control, and non-sterile compounding. Upon completion, students should be able to perform basic supervised dispensing techniques in a variety of pharmacy settings.
