VGCC South Campus will celebrate Earth Day April 24

Vance-Granville Community College’s South Campus will hold an Earth Day festival on Monday, April 24, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., and the public is invited to attend. Weather permitting, activities will be outside in front of the campus , which is located on N.C. 56 between Creedmoor and Butner.

The celebration is designed to educate the college and community about conservation and the natural world in a fun, informative setting.

Special guests will include the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ N.C. Bioenergy Research Initiative, the Granville County Beekeepers Association, Granville Gardeners, Granville County Soil & Water Conservation, Granville Greenways, Greenology Products, scientist Dr. Matt Meiners from EpiCypher, Dalton Mill Nursery, a park ranger from Falls Lake State Recreation Area, the Tar River Land Conservancy, the North Carolina Forest Service, Granville County Schools Recycling Coordinator Teresa Baker, the Creedmoor Farmers Market, the Granville County Sheriff’s Department (collecting old medications), Hazen and Sawyer (an engineering firm focused on water quality), a U.S. Marine Corps Recruiter, Granville Health System, Home Tweet Home & Crafts, and food vendors including VGCC Culinary Arts, Jay Boy’s Hot Dogs and George Wilkins.

Activities will also include a Trash/Recycling Fashion Show. Meanwhile, as part of a contest, students in several South Campus classes will create posters depicting environmental concerns related to Earth Day.
