State Employees’ Credit Union offers Continuing Education scholarships through VGCC

Vance-Granville Community College is offering 10 scholarships of $750 each to students enrolled in Continuing Education classes through a program funded by the State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) of North Carolina.

 

“The SECU is providing these funds to VGCC on behalf of the student to be used for registration fees, books, certification fees and course supplies,” said Dale Fey, dean of Continuing Education at VGCC.  “We are so appreciative of the Credit Union for reaching out to help students who otherwise could not afford these educational opportunities.”

 

Scholarship applicants should be: U.S. citizens and North Carolina residents living in the VGCC service area; from one of the following target groups: unemployment insurance claimants, unemployed and underemployed adults, members of the N.C. National Guard, or military veterans and their spouses; enrolled in a short-term training program that leads to an occupational-specific, state-regulated, or industry-recognized occupational credential that is offered through Continuing Education; and not a director, employee or family member of an employee of the SECU or its foundation.

 

The following are the VGCC Continuing Education programs of study eligible for the scholarship: Nursing Assistant I, Nursing Assistant II, Medication Aide, Geriatric Aide, Home Care Aide, Phlebotomy, Certified Production Technician, Emergency Medical Technician-Basic, EMT-Paramedic, and BioWork Technician.

 

Applications are available from Dale Fey at the Continuing Education Division in Building 7 on the main campus and at VGCC’s South Campus , Franklin Campus and Warren Campus .

 

Applicants must include an essay stating their reasons for applying for the scholarship. They are encouraged to include information that may be useful to the selection committee, such as financial circumstances, reasons for program selection and extracurricular obligations and activities.

The deadline for submissions is Oct. 31 for the Fall Semester and April 15, 2015, for the Spring Semester.
