When student actors return to the Vance-Granville stage next month, it will be a moment four years in the making.
VGCC Drama proudly presents its production of David Auburn’s “Proof,” winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play. In the story, the twenty-something daughter of an esteemed mathematician has just laid her father to rest. In the days that follow, she must deal with her own volatile emotions, the arrival of her estranged sister, and the attentions of her father’s former student. The discovery of a mysterious notebook draws her into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father’s madness—or genius—will she inherit?
The all-student cast and crew come from across the College’s service area: Micah Jones of Franklinton as Robert, Saylor Gray of Bullock as Catherine, JayAnn Gupton of Henderson as Claire, Andrew Arnott of Oxford as Hal, Aidan Bowen of Stovall on props and makeup, Morgan Burnett of Henderson on sound, Chania Miller of Henderson on lighting, KB Wiggs of Henderson as stage manager, and Riley Stone of Bullock as assistant stage manager. The students have worked under the direction of VGCC’s Department Chair of Fine Arts & Humanities, Betsy Henderson.
