My name is Michael Green, and I am from Stem, North Carolina. I am 24-years-old and a Class of 2020 graduate from Granville Early College High School, graduating with my Associate in Science degree and magna cum laude honors.
After graduating from high school, I was accepted to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where I majored in biology. Over the two and a half years that I was at UNC-Charlotte, I took courses that prepared me for a future career path in medicine. These courses were heavily focused on science and mathematics, preparing me for my future endeavors. After graduating with my Bachelor of Science degree in biology with cum laude honors in December 2022, I began the search for a position in the medical field for valuable experience for medical school.
In April 2023, I was able to obtain a position as a Clinical Tech Assistant in the Nuclear Medicine department at Duke University Hospital. I have been working in this same position as I’ve prepared to transition into medical school. During my time here, I have studied for my MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test) while working full time. I was also able to obtain my shadow opportunities here at the hospital with different physicians in specialties such as breast oncology, gastroenterology, and orthopedics. Then during the summer of 2025, I began the process of applying to medical school, filling out the applications, and sending all the necessary paperwork. In February of this year, after a few interviews and months of waiting, I received the email that made all my prayers and hard work come to life: I was accepted into Howard University College of Medicine.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to become a physician and work in the field of medicine. This has been a long journey, but none of it would have been possible without God and the love of my family and friends to support me along the way. This is a testament to not give up on your dreams and to trust in the Lord with your plans and watch how he will work it out.
