Future aviators look to the skies during VGCC’s ACE Academy

VGCC ACE Academy campers with a small plane

VGCC's ACE Academy campers encountered aircraft up close at Henderson-Oxford Airport.

Earlier this month, Vance-Granville Community College welcomed local youth to our Henderson and Louisburg campuses for a week of high-flying, educational fun! Each of the two campuses hosted a weeklong drone camp known as an Aviation Career Exploration (ACE) Academy—made possible with the support of the Federal Aviation Administration. Grant funding was supplied by the NC Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation , via the Henderson-Oxford and Triangle North Executive airports.

Campers visited Triangle North Executive Airport in Louisburg, Raleigh-Durham International Airport, and Henderson-Oxford Airport. VGCC is one of only three community colleges in North Carolina hosting an ACE Academy.

A big thanks to Customized Training Director James Brown for leading this camp with co-instructor Derek Parker and the assistance of Tanya Weary, Sheri Jones, and Ken Wilson of The VGCC Foundation .

Information about future youth camps will be posted on our website’s Camps & Workshops page as it is available. To learn more about Vance-Granville’s Aviation offerings, please visit www.vgcc.edu/aviation .
