James N. Brown, Jr., has been named the Director of Customized Training at Vance-Granville Community College. In that role, Brown will lead a program that collaborates with new, expanding and existing industries in the area to meet their needs for workforce training. The N.C. Community College System Customized Training program is one of the state’s top tools for economic development and recruiting new jobs.

A mechanical engineer by training, Brown joins VGCC after a long career in the private sector, mostly with the John Deere company. He most recently worked as a Product Safety and Standards Engineer for John Deere in Cary.

“I’m honored to have been invited to work at VGCC,” Brown said. “Serving this area’s customized training needs will be a natural extension of my two decades in industry, and I’m very much looking forward to hitting the ground running.”

Brown earned his bachelor’s degree at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and later completed both an MBA and a graduate certificate in marketing at East Carolina University.

“Mr. Brown is an outstanding addition to the VGCC team and brings a wealth of knowledge and an array of skills that will serve our industries well. We are more than excited to have him become a part of VGCC,” said Tanya S. Weary, Dean of Business & Industry Solutions for the college.
