Modern administrative careers look very different than those of the past—and the training they require has changed too. Starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, Vance-Granville Community College will launch a bold redesign of its administrative programs to better align with the demands of today’s professional world. These tracks go beyond traditional training, offering students targeted, career-focused pathways. With an emphasis on technology and industry-specific skills, these reimagined programs will help students confidently enter or advance in fast-paced office and healthcare environments.
“Our goal is to provide graduates who are confident, career-ready, and prepared to meet the demands of today’s workforce,” commented Program Head Hollie Garrett. “These updates are designed to give our students a clearer path to their career goals while better reflecting the skills today’s employers are looking for. By clearly defining our pathways, students can now pursue the option that best fits their professional interests.”
Office Management
Office Administration officially becomes Office Management starting fall 2025, reflecting the modern, technology-driven, and leadership-focused direction of the program. Previously, the program focused mainly on traditional office skills. The updated curriculum now prepares students for modern office environments with an emphasis on leadership, technology, and virtual collaboration. Students gain experience in project management, customer experience, and digital workplace tools, which align with the needs of employers in both small businesses and corporate settings.
Medical Office Administration
Previously, Medical Office Administration had a single track, which students could “tweak” with a few electives to fit their goals. Now, MOA students have two clearly defined pathways that provide more direction and clarity:
- The General pathway offers flexibility with more elective options, allowing students to choose courses that align with their interests or specific career goals in healthcare administration.
- The Medical Billing & Coding pathway is tailored for students who are interested in pursuing a national certification in medical coding or prefer to work in billing, insurance, and revenue cycle management. It provides a structured curriculum focused on coding skills, compliance, and the revenue cycle to prepare students for employment or credentialing.
