VGCC to hold free seminar in Oxford on starting a home-based business

For any aspiring entrepreneur who has contemplated working from home, Vance-Granville Community College’s Small Business Center will present a free seminar on Tuesday, March 14. The seminar, “How to Start a Home-Based Business,” will be held from 2-4 p.m. at the Richard H. Thornton Library, located at 210 Main Street in Oxford.

Leading the seminar will be S. Briles Johnson, executive director of the Women’s Business Center of North Carolina. The center is a partnership between the N.C. Institute of Minority Economic Development and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Before coming to the Institute in 2011, Johnson worked for the N.C. Department of Commerce as an Economic Developer/Business Manager.

Johnson will explore why many people find that working at home is the “ideal arrangement” and decide to formally set up businesses in their homes. Topics of discussion will include getting started, finding a niche, legal requirements and developing a business plan as well as a marketing and financial plan.

For more information and to reserve a seat for this free seminar, contact Small Business Center Director Tanya Weary at smallbusiness@vgcc.edu or (252) 738-3240. The deadline to register is March 7.
