VGCC names new Dean of Students

George A. Henderson was recently named Dean of Students at Vance-Granville Community College. Henderson (pictured above), a resident of Wake Forest, has worked in various capacities for the college since 1998 and most recently served as dean of VGCC’s Warren County Campus .

 

In his new leadership role, Henderson oversees an array of student support services, including counseling, advising, tutoring , mentoring, career services , and the Workforce Investment Act . He also supervises departments such as Admissions & Records , Financial Aid , the Registrar , Student Activities and Athletics . Henderson’s division encompasses the Basic Skills programs that help adults complete their high school diplomas to prepare for college and careers, as well as the Early College High Schools and Career & College Promise programs, which allow high school students to earn college credits.

 

“This is an exciting time at Vance-Granville Community College, because both our new ‘Vanguard Vision’ Strategic Plan and our Quality Enhancement Plan present new opportunities for us to help all the members of our diverse community of learners to succeed,” said Henderson.

 

Henderson originally worked in the GED Testing and Adult Basic Skills programs at VGCC before being appointed to lead the Warrenton campus in 2005. Earlier in his career, he worked with Carolina Power and Light Co. (now known as Duke Energy Progress), specializing in customer service and residential electrical engineering. Henderson holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Mars Hill College and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Phoenix. He is also a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program for community college administrators sponsored by North Carolina State University.

 

Henderson is the former president of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce of Warren County and has been a Preservation Warrenton board member.
