Community College System Vice President To Speak At VGCC Spring Graduation
Dr. Larry Keen, vice president for the Division of Economic and Workforce Development for the North Carolina Community College System, will be the guest speaker for Vance-Granville Community College’s Spring Graduation.
Graduation will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the main campus in Vance County. Approximately 325 students are scheduled to receive their associate degrees, diplomas and certificates from curriculum programs, and another 98 are slated to receive adult high school diplomas and GEDs.
Dr. Keen’s division supports the state’s 58 community colleges to provide high quality training and services that enable North Carolinians to acquire knowledge and skills to obtain and maintain prosperous career opportunities and enhance their quality of life.
He is responsible for the New and Expanding Industry Training Program, Focused Industrial Training Program, Continuing Education, Human Resource Development, Small Business Center Network, and Workforce Initiatives for the North Carolina Community College.
Dr. Keen came to North Carolina from Oklahoma, where he had served as Business and Industry Manager for the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, and as director for High School and College Relations at Oklahoma State University. He has also been executive director of the Miami Area Economic Development Service, worked in manufacturing for the BF Goodrich Corp., served in several capacities with the U.S. Army Reserve and in leadership capacities for faith-based and civic enterprises.
Dr. Keen earned his doctorate in higher education from Oklahoma State University, a Master of Science in Business Education from Pittsburgh State University, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Missouri Southern State College and an Associate of Arts from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. He is a Master Trainer and is certified in several corporate training programs that have been provided to the business and government sectors.
