VGCC offers Shag and Line Dancing lessons

Two popular forms of dancing are the subject of an upcoming course at Vance-Granville Community College. “Beginners’ Shag and Line Dancing” classes will be held on Monday evenings, Nov. 1 through Nov. 22, on the lower level of Building 9 at the college’s main campus in Vance County.

From 7 until 8 p.m., instructor Ronnie McMannen, with the assistance of a dance partner, Debbie Hight, will teach Shag dancing by demonstrating the five basic steps. He will break down the popular form of swing dancing, associated with beach music, in a step-by-step manner. From 8 until 9 p.m., McMannen will teach line dancing, including some of the newest styles. Students may choose to only attend one of the two hours or they may stay for the entire evening.

“This class is a wonderful activity for couples to do together, but it is certainly not necessary for you to bring a partner for either the shag or the line dancing lessons,” McMannen said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun, a chance to make new friends, and it’s also great cardiovascular exercise.”

The cost of the course is $45 plus a $3 campus access/security fee.

For more information and to register, call McMannen at (919) 697-1621 or Gabrielle Norfleet at (252) 738-3275.
