On Saturday, July 12, VGCC’s talented Culinary Arts students participated in a thrilling television-style cooking competition at the Oxford Armory Farmers Market. The College’s culinary program emphasizes hands-on experience, and this competition exemplified students’ hard work and dedication.
The atmosphere was electric as our aspiring chefs went head-to-head, showcasing their creativity and skills in front of a live audience. Students Martin Cardenas Ramirez, Harry Compton, and Nautica Williams crafted delicious dishes using mystery ingredients donated by the vendors at the farmers market, impressing everyone with their talent and passion for cooking. Harry ultimately came out on top as both the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice winner.
Chef Marc from Oxford Oaks Distillery, Chef Freddy and Chef Gavin from Henderson Country Club, and Town of Oxford Commissioner Quon Bridges all served as competition judges. State Representative Brian Cohn (HD32) also attended.
We are so proud of what our students achieved and grateful for the community support that makes events like this possible. A big thank you to everyone who cheered on our future culinary stars and to our judges for their time and expertise! VGCC Culinary Arts will return to the Oxford Farmers Market this fall to get creative with pumpkins—stay tuned for dates and details.
