Henderson-based nonprofit Carolina United for Change, Inc. (CUFC) has continued its support of Vance-Granville Community College students.
Joseph Brodie, co-founder and leader of the organization, recently visited The VGCC Foundation to present a $1,000 donation which will fund two annual scholarships ($500 each). The scholarships honor the memory of Brodie’s son, Jovan Q. Steed, who lost his life to gun violence.
According to the organization’s website, the mission of CUFC is to help the poor and needy and to help protect the rights of all persons regardless of race, gender, or social origin. Brodie is a graduate of Vance-Granville’s Criminal Justice Technology and Human Services Technology programs, as well as a U.S. Army veteran.
Carolina United for Change first established an annual scholarship at Vance-Granville Community College in 2022.
About The Vance-Granville Community College Foundation
The VGCC Foundation (VGCCF) offers over 300 endowments for Vance-Granville students, more endowed scholarships than any other program of its kind in North Carolina. In addition to providing scholarships and emergency assistance to deserving students, VGCCF supports a broad range of special projects involving education, training, and economic development in our community.
Numerous individuals, industries, businesses, civic groups, and churches have endowed scholarships, as well as the College’s faculty and staff. Tax-deductible donations to VGCCF have often been used to honor a person, group, business, or industry with a lasting gift to education.
