Canvas Online Learning Is Coming to VGCC
Vance-Granville Community College is transitioning from Moodle to Canvas by Instructure in January 2027 as part of a statewide initiative to provide students across North Carolina community colleges with a more consistent online learning experience.
Canvas will serve as the College’s new online learning platform, providing students with access to course materials, assignments, grades, and communication with their instructors. The transition is part of VGCC’s continued efforts to support teaching, learning, and student success.
What Does This Mean for Students?
Beginning in January 2027, students will use Canvas for their new VGCC courses.
December 2026 will be the final month of courses offered in Moodle. Students currently enrolled in Moodle courses should continue accessing and completing their coursework in Moodle until their courses end in December. These courses will not move to Canvas, and no action is required from students at this time.
Preparing for the Transition
VGCC’s Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is working with faculty and staff to prepare for the transition and provide the resources and support needed for a smooth transition to Canvas.
Over the coming weeks, the College will share additional information to help students become familiar with Canvas, including how to access the platform, locate their courses, and receive assistance.
As VGCC prepares for the Spring 2027 semester, the College remains focused on supporting students and faculty throughout the transition.
