VGCC schedules online Health Unit Coordinator training course

Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for a Health Unit Coordinator course.

This course will be offered in an online format, except for a one-time on-campus meeting for orientation on Monday, March 5, from 5:30-8:30 p.m., in room 7102 of Building 7 on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County. After that, students will complete their work online through the end of the course on May 11. The instructor will be Hollie Garrett, who teaches for VGCC’s Medical Office Administration curriculum program.

Upon completion of this training, students will have the skills and applications needed for today’s health unit environment. Individuals in this career coordinate activities of hospital departments, doctors, nursing staff, visitors and patients. Health Unit Coordinator is a recognized classification for non-clinical entry-level positions within the medical field. During the course, students will perform data entry and learn to maintain records, reports, and charts. Medical law and ethics will also be covered.

Upon completion of this course, students are eligible to take the nationally recognized exam from the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators.

The cost of the course is $183, plus the cost of the textbook.

Registration can be completed online at www.vgcc.edu/schedules/occupational-extension-schedule or at any VGCC campus.
