VGCC SAMA Members Attend State Convention

The VGCC Student Association of Medical Assistants (SAMA) has had a busy spring — and they do not seem to be slowing down for the summer.

Five members of the organization attended the North Carolina Society of Medical Assistants’ (NCSMA) state convention in Greenville on April 22-25.

Those attending were Karen Bush, Lisa Youngs, Renita Peace, Judy Dunston and Glenn Grady, club advisor.

The event provided educational workshops and networking opportunities for attendees. Grady was elected vice president of the state organization and chairperson for the Membership committee and Educator’s committee.

NCSMA recently became the largest Society of Medical Assistants in the United States with over 1,600 members.

Club members have also been getting in their exercise. Five SAMA students walked in the March of Dimes walk-a-thon held at South Granville high school on April 17. Walkers were Judy Dunston, Dianne Allen, Lisa Youngs, Renita Peace and Glenn Grady. The club made a $25 donation to The March of Dimes.

Lisa Youngs and Karen Bush represented the SAMA club in the Franklin County Relay For Life Cancer Walk in Louisburg on April 30. The club made a $25 donation to the American Cancer Society.

Congratulations are in order for Terri Evans, SAMA member and club treasurer. She has been selected to represent VGCC at the N.C. Community College Leadership Institute. She is one of only 30 Community College students throughout the state to be selected. It will be held July 18-23 at Peace College in Raleigh.
