VGCC Board Holds Meeting

Friday, December 7, 2007

The Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees held their bimonthly meeting on Monday, Nov. 19 at the Henderson campus of VGCC.

At that meeting, the Board approved the 2008-2009 Cooperative Program Agreements with the Boards of Education in Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren counties in accordance with state law.

Dr. Angela Ballentine, Vice President of Instruction and interim Dean of Health Sciences, reported that nursing students showed excellent passing rates on the National Council Licensure Examinations (NCLEX). These exams are required by the state for a student to practice as a licensed registered nurse or as a licensed practical nurse. Students in the Associate Degree Nursing program had a 93 percent passing rate, while those in the Practical Nursing program had a 92.5 percent passing rate.

Sara Wester, Chair of the Budget Committee, reported that enrollment at the college for fall 2007 is up. Headcount is at approximately 4,100 students.

Wester also reported that VGCC employees had been awarded bonuses for achieving a superior rating on the “Critical Success Factors Report” -- the annual report from the N.C. Community College System which measures how individual community colleges are performing.

The next regular meeting of the Board will be held on Monday, January 28 in the board room on main campus.
