NEW SCHOLARSHIP

Lois R. Williams presents $6,000 to Vance-Granville Community College President Robert A. Miller to establish a scholarship at the college in memory of her late husband, Edward L. Williams. Their daughter, Marcia J. Williams, looks on at left. The first Edward L. Williams Memorial Academic Achievement Scholarship will be awarded in September to a deserving student. The family designated that the $500 scholarship go to a student in Automotive Technology if there is a qualified applicant. Edward Williams operated Garnett Street Transmission Service and had employed graduates of VGCC’s automotive program. Lois Williams retired from teaching school after more than 30 years, and Marcia Williams is currently a high school teacher in Chapel Hill.
