Visitors to VGCC Day Care Center talk about safety

Vance-Granville Community College’s Day Care Center, located on the college’s main campus in Vance County, received special guests during the week of Oct. 5, as the children studied safety and fire prevention. One morning, Tim Twisdale of the Watkins Volunteer Fire Department visited with a fire truck. The other visitors included Lt. Irvin Robinson of the Henderson Police Department, and his friend, McGruff, the Crime Dog. “Lt. Robinson works with the Safe Kids Program,” Day Care Center director Denise Gill explained. “He and McGruff shared safety tips for trick or treating on Halloween, as well as general safety information, such as what to do when a stranger approaches. They supplied the kids with stickers, crayons and coloring books on safety.”

Robinson pose with the four-year-old class, including, from left, Zayne Allen of Oxford, Lucas Satterwhite, Matthew Breedlove and Abi-Kate Collins, all of Henderson; Ethan Young of Oxford, Beau Burnette, Madison Munn, Sam Frazier and Eleana Parham, all of Henderson; Kelsey Williamson of Oxford and Coleman Hines of Henderson.
