VGCC’s Newest Club Off To Great Start!

The Student Association of Medical Assistants (SAMA), VGCC’s newest club, has been very busy this fall.

Their first fundraiser was a great success. The proceeds will be used to “adopt” a family for Thanksgiving in each of Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin counties. This month, the club will be raising money to provide meals and gifts for needy families at Christmas.

SAMA also collected items for the flood victims in eastern North Carolina and delivered the donations to a church in that area.

SAMA club members are easy to spot on campus; they are the ones wearing the new club T-shirts and sweatpants, showing their school and club pride.

In honor of the National Medical Assistants Week in October, SAMA placed flowers at each campus. Also, several club members attended the banquet sponsored by the Nash County chapter of the AAMA.

In October, club advisor and Medical Assisting instructor/program head Glenn Grady won a national acheivement award at the national AAMA convention in Nashville, Tenn. The award was for the establishment of the N.C. Society of Medical Assistants web page, flier and brochure.
