VGCC Spring Semester Registration starts Nov. 15

The Spring 2011 semester at Vance-Granville Community College begins Wednesday, Jan. 5, but college officials advise students to apply and register for classes as early as possible. New students may apply for admission at any time. The upcoming semester’s course schedule is now available on VGCC’s web site by clicking on “ WebAdvisor ,” then “Prospective Students” and finally “Curriculum Course Schedules.” Printed schedules will also be available at all VGCC campuses and in boxes at various community locations.

Orientation sessions for new students in curriculum programs will be held in the Civic Center on VGCC’s main campus in Vance County on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. Orientation sessions will also be offered on the college’s other campuses (located in Warren, Granville and Franklin counties).

Priority registration will be offered to currently enrolled students, both online and at VGCC’s four campuses, on Monday, Nov. 15 and Tuesday, Nov. 16. Registration will be open to all new and returning students on Wednesday-Thursday, Nov. 17-18, Monday-Thursday, Nov. 29-Dec. 2, and finally on Tuesday, Jan. 4. Hours for in-person registration are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Students also have the option of registering for classes online through the WebAdvisor system. High school students interested in dual enrollment , also known as “A Step Ahead,” are not eligible to register online and must register in-person on Jan. 4 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Students may pay, verify payment or charge tuition and fees online through WebAdvisor (by Visa or MasterCard) or in person at the VGCC Business Office on Main Campus (or at the campus where they are enrolled) on the same days as registration. The Main Campus Business Office hours of operation during registration are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, and 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Fridays. The payment deadline for early registration is Thursday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. in person, or Friday, Dec. 31 online or by mail. For students registering later, the payment deadline is Jan. 4 at 5 p.m. Students will not be mailed an invoice or schedule of classes, but may view and print their charges and class schedule through their WebAdvisor account.

Anyone with questions about registration at Vance-Granville should contact the college’s main campus at (252) 492-2061 or visit any of the other campuses for more information.

FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE

VGCC Director of Financial Aid Frank A. Clark encourages students who need financial assistance to visit his office by Nov. 12 to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or complete the application online at www.fafsa.ed.gov .

Eligible students may receive Pell Grants ranging from $555 to $5,550. Students may also qualify for other college or state funds, including NC Community College Grants and the NC Education Lottery Scholarships, which are need-based grants that can help many students who previously were not eligible for Pell grants. In order for a student to charge tuition, fees, and books to financial aid awards, the application must be processed entirely prior to the registration period. Students should bring a signed copy of their 2009 federal tax return, and/or their parents’ return, when they apply for funding assistance at any of the four campuses. Students with preschool-age children may receive financial assistance to help pay for child care, and applications for this help are also available at the Financial Aid Office.

For more details regarding financial assistance, visit the Financial Aid Office in Room 8215 on Main Campus or call (252) 738-3280.

HELP FOR VETERANS

Military veterans who wish to use their Veterans’ Education benefits may contact the Financial Aid Office at (252) 738-3421. Veterans should check with Financial Aid to see if the programs in which they are interested are covered.
