VGCC Seeks Granville County Input At Long-Range Planning Session

Vance-Granville Community College is inviting Granville County residents to participate in a Strategic Initiatives Forum to help form a long-range plan for the college.

The session will be held from noon to 2 p.m. in the cafeteria at the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford on Tuesday, April 19. The cafeteria is located adjacent to the Administration Building. A box lunch will be provided at the beginning of the session.

In issuing the invitation, VGCC President Randy Parker said the college needs community input concerning the economic, social, cultural and educational needs of Granville County and ways in which the college can incorporate these needs into its educational mission.

The Granville County meeting is the third of similar sessions to be held in all four of the counties served by Vance-Granville Community College. Previous sessions were held in Warren and Franklin counties, and a Vance County session will be held April 25.

“Input received in these sessions will help determine how Vance-Granville can meet the needs as defined in each community,” Parker said. “This input will be part of VGCC’s Strategic Initiatives as we develop a strategic plan for the college’s future to prepare our communities for the new knowledge-based and global economy and marketplace.”

“New skills and knowledge are required to prepare a better trained workforce, and VGCC must provide the leadership to meet these needs,” Parker added.

While participants have lunch, President Parker and Roxanne Fleming, VGCC Director of Institutional Effectiveness, will make brief presentations. Participants will then break out into small groups to discuss specific topics and brainstorm solutions. Everyone will then return as a group to review the information that will become components of the college’s long-range plan.
