VGCC Quilting classes start in January

As area residents adjust to the cold winter weather, they often turn to the warmth of quilts. For those who want to make their own, either for everyday use or as works of art, Vance-Granville Community College will offer quilting classes starting in January 2011.

Students may attend the eight-week classes on one of three different schedules: Tuesday evenings from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m., starting Jan. 11; Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon, starting Jan. 12; and Thursday evenings from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m., starting Jan. 13.

All classes are held in room 5201 on the college’s main campus in Vance County.

According to longtime VGCC Quilting instructor Peggy Stocks of Manson, beginners are welcome to the classes, as are seasoned quilters who want to learn new skills. Stocks is the instructor for the Wednesday and Thursday classes, while Velvet Boyd teaches the Tuesday night sessions.

The cost of the course is $49.
