VGCC Plans Quilting Class at Franklin Campus

Quilters of all levels of experience are invited to attend a quilting class beginning Sept. 10 at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus.

The class will be held in the new building opened in April at the campus on N.C. 56 west of Louisburg. Classes are scheduled on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will run until Dec. 10.

Peggy Stocks, who has taught quilting at Vance-Granville’s main campus since 1995, will be the instructor. She has more than 33 years of quilting experience and has won numerous awards at quilt shows throughout the state and Southeast. One of her quilts currently hangs in an exhibit of community college arts and crafts in the Caswell Building, headquarters of the North Carolina Community College System in Raleigh.

Stocks said she will teach how to make a sampler quilt and hand piecing during the class at the Franklin County Campus. She will also have some needed quilting supplies for sale, which are not available in local area stores.

Cost of the class is $45. Interested persons are asked to pre-register by calling the Franklin County Campus at 496-1567 or the Continuing Education office at the main campus at 492-2061.
