VGCC Offers Microsoft Office Software Classes In Days, Evenings During Fall

Vance-Granville Community College will offer both day and evening classes this fall that teach the entire Microsoft Office suite of software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

Today, almost every home and business office uses Microsoft Office software. Using this software, students will learn word processing, electronic spreadsheets, database and presentation skills, as well as Internet search skills and email, said Ann Behar, coordinator of VGCC’s Computer Extension Program. Real world examples of common office documents such as business letters, faxes, resumes, budgets, expense reports, as well as customer and other types of lists will be continually integrated throughout the class.

The daytime course, which is longer, will also teach keyboarding skills. Upon completion of the course, students will have skills in software programs used in the majority of offices in the United States today, Behar said. These skills will help persons obtain jobs, as well as prepare employed persons for greater responsibilities and promotions, she added.

Daytime sections will start on Tuesday, Sept. 7, and Monday, Oct. 25, and will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 12 noon. Each section lasts approximately six weeks. Cost of the daytime class is $65 plus the cost of the book.

The evening section will start on Thursday, Sept. 2, and will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thi s class will last 13 weeks. Cost for the evening class is $60 plus the cost of the book.

Both day and evening classes will be taught in Building 7 on the main campus in Vance County.
