VGCC Offers Free Seminars On Shopping For A Computer

Is a computer on your Christmas list? Notebook or desktop? Flat panel or CRT? Megahertz? Pixels? Computers are great tools, but the choices can be overwhelming, especially when you don’t even know what half the words mean!

Vance-Granville Community College is ready to help you. The college’s Computer Center is offering a free seminar – “Shopping for a Computer – What to Look For” – for prospective computer users and buyers. It will guide you through the terminology and purchasing choices before you ever set foot in the store.

The seminar will teach what different computer features do so you can decide whether you want them for your computer. Then, buyers can more easily compare different systems and get the system that is right for you and your pocketbook.

One seminar will be held on VGCC’s main campus in Building 7, Room 7100, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18. Laura Peace, a full-time Occupational Extension computer instructor, will lead the seminar. A second seminar will be held on VGCC’s Franklin County Campus in Building 1, Room 135, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17. Sheila Jenkins, a full-time Occupational Extension computer instructor, will lead this seminar.

Interested persons may call Ann Behar, Computer Center director, at (252) 738-3417 for more information and to pre-register for the seminar.

The Computer Center operates under the Occupational Extension division of Continuing Education and offers computer classes to area residents, as well as to businesses and industries.
