VGCC offers course on Child Mental Health

Area residents can learn about dealing with mental health issues in children in a four-week course offered by Vance-Granville Community College starting Sept. 10. The course will be taught at the main campus in Vance County on Mondays, 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., from Sept. 10 through Oct. 1.Participants will learn techniques for working effectively with children with mental health disorders, including young children as well as teenagers. Instructor Susan Hartner of Creedmoor, who also designed the course, is a national board-certified counselor with Triumph, LLC, a human services provider with a location in Henderson. Hartner said that the course would be beneficial to teachers, parents, foster parents, social workers, or anyone who works with children with special needs.The cost of the class will be $50.For more information and to register, call Melonie Gupton at (252) 738-3239.
