VGCC Offers Beginning Italian Course

A course in the Italian language for beginners is being offered by Vance-Granville Community College this fall. Classes will be held on Saturday mornings, starting Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on the college’s main campus in Vance County.Whether a student needs practical language for a trip to Italy or just wants a fun learning experience, instructor Giulia Vitale of Warrenton thinks that anyone can benefit from the class. She said that this course will “enrich students’ understanding of how the Italian language and culture affects our everyday lives, from music to food.” She added that students will learn practical vocabulary, as well as recipes, and no previous knowledge of Italian is required.A native of Great Britain, Vitale lived in Italy for more than a decade. She said that her background gives her a combination of experience with Italian language and culture from the perspective both of an insider and that of an outsider. Vitale holds a Master’s degree in Italian Studies from the University of California at Berkeley. The cost of the course is $45.For more information and to register, call Donna Dodson at (252) 738-3316.For information on the textbook that is to be used, Buongiorno Italia, potential students may contact Vitale at (252) 257-2671.
