VGCC Offers Anatomy Course Required for EMT-Paramedics

An Anatomy and Physiology course for Emergency Medical Service Personnel will begin in February at Vance-Granville Community College.

The North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services has made this course a pre-requisite for entrance into the EMT-Paramedic course. The course will be taught on the VGCC main campus in Vance County in the evenings from 6 to 10, beginning Feb. 15 and ending April 11. There will be on Saturday lab on March 26 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pre-requisites for students taking the course are to be at least 18, have a high school diploma or GED, and be credentialed as an EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic. Any interested person not meeting one or more of these requirements should contact Randy Owen, VGCC Coordinator of EMS Programs, at (252) 738-3448.

Registration fee for the course is $60, payable the first night of classes. Tuition can be waived for students who are members of agencies such as fire departments, rescue squads, law enforcement agencies or 911 centers. All students are responsible for purchasing the course textbook, Functional Anatomy for Emergency Medical Services, available with a workbook from the VGCC Main Campus Bookstore for $65.22. There is also a $2 parking fee required.

Vivian Loyd and Niki Weldon will be the course instructors.

Interested persons who do not meet all requirements or who have additional questions should contact Owen by e-mail at owenr@vgcc.edu or by phone. Owen should also be contacted to pre-register.
