VGCC offers Administrative Assistant computer training

Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for an upcoming “Administrative Assistant Essentials” software training course, starting Nov. 19 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. The popular course, designed to give students an update on the computer skills that are needed in today’s workplaces, will meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until noon, through Feb. 22, 2013. Classes will meet in room 7136 of Building 7.

Students will receive a total of 180 hours of instruction in the 2010 versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Access, including practice projects that utilize key features of the those programs. The course will teach the student to integrate the various applications with one another to fully utilize their interface capabilities.

“This course is excellent for unemployed workers who need additional computer skills or who need to learn Microsoft Office programs in order to re-enter the job market,” said VGCC Computer Center coordinator Laura Peace. “In fact, I’m delighted that several students from previous Administrative Assistant Essentials classes have gotten jobs as a result of completing this class. Every worker in the workforce today must have good computer skills to remain competitive and to perform everyday tasks, and even for those who already have some experience, this class offers instruction in the numerous changes that Microsoft made in their most recent updates to these programs.”

The cost of the course includes a registration fee of $175, plus $7 in other college fees. For one course per semester, registration fees are waived for N.C. resident seniors, ages 65 and above.
