VGCC names new Dean of Arts & Sciences

Maria B. Bailey of Henderson was recently named Dean of Arts and Sciences at Vance-Granville Community College. Bailey (pictured above), who has worked at VGCC in a variety of capacities over almost two decades, will lead a division that includes the College Transfer program (offering the first two years of a four-year degree), as well as certificate, diploma and degree programs in Bioprocess Technology , Early Childhood Education and School-Age Education .

 

Bailey graduated from Radford College in Virginia with bachelor’s degrees in Dance and Biology and later earned a Master’s in Business Administration from Meredith College. She worked in private industry for several years as a supervisor, human resources manager and trainer before joining VGCC in 1993 as an instructor for the college’s business and industry training programs. Bailey also taught for the Business Administration curriculum program and served as coordinator for the Cooperative Work Experience (or “Co-Op”) program. She then served as VGCC’s Dean of Student Services from 1997 through 2002, as the advisor for selective Health Sciences programs from 2002 through 2011, and Health Sciences Admissions Coordinator from 2011 through 2012.                             

 

Bailey is a graduate of the VGCC Leadership Institute and has served on various college committees, as well as advisory boards for the Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments and the Salvation Army.
