VGCC Logistics instructor profiled in national magazine

Sherry Askew, the transportation manager at Revlon Consumer Products in Oxford and a part-time Logistics instructor for Vance-Granville Community College, was featured in the August issue of “Inbound Logistics,” a major national trade magazine covering transportation and business supply chains.

In the article , Askew (pictured above) explained that she found out she had a passion for transportation when she was working as the executive administrative assistant to the vice president of transportation at Revlon. She earned a certification from the Institute of Logistics Management, which led to her promotion to transportation administrator. “I love transportation because it’s fast-paced, with constant activity,” Askew said. “Transportation is responsible for making things happen from the beginning, when the product is just a collection of raw materials, all the way to delivery to the customer as finished goods.” In her position, Askew is responsible for managing pricing and contracts, analyzing data, and serving as a liaison with the freight payment provider for Revlon’s U.S. and Canadian transportation, both inbound and outbound.

She has recently been working on implementing a single freight payment provider for global transportation. “I’m tasked with finding a provider that can handle all our business in the United States, Canada, Asia-Pacific, Australia, Latin America, and Mexico,” Askew said. In 2010, she received an employee recognition award for her efforts to improve Revlon’s international inventory flow.

Askew teaches self-supporting Logistics courses for VGCC at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner.

VGCC also offers a two-year associate degree in Global Logistics Technology , as well as certificates in Global Supply Chain, Logistics Management, Secure Logistics and Transportation Logistics.
