VGCC Class Will Help You Tell Your Story

Do you have a story inside you just bursting to get out? A Vance-Granville Community College personal enrichment class will help you get those thoughts on paper.

Dr. Bob Toler will teach “Telling One’s Own Story” on Mondays, beginning Sept. 11 and ending Nov. 13, on the college’s main campus in Vance County. Classes will be held in Room 5220 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

“I’ve found there are a lot of people who have something to say but who are afraid of writing,” said Toler. “This class will help them become comfortable with writing and develop an appreciation for what writing can do for you.”

Toler will teach the techniques for biographical narratives and for keeping a journal. “There’s a great deal of joy in looking back on one’s life and experiences, and keeping a journal helps you document those experiences rather than depending on memory.”

People who participate in this class also talk in a more productive way and interview better for jobs, Toler added.

Toler holds a doctorate in physiological psychology. He currently teaches at Kittrell Job Corps Center and has taught biology and adult high school education for VGCC.

Cost of the writing class is $37.50. To pre-register, call the VGCC Continuing Education office at (252) 492-2061, ext. 3316.
