VGCC Acting Class Open To All In January

Anyone who thinks they might like to get into community theatre will have an opportunity to study the acting craft in a class being offered in January at Vance-Granville Community College.

The acting class will meet from 7 to 10 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday evening in January, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Jerome Johnson, VGCC theatre arts coordinator, will teach the class. He said the class is open to everyone, whether they have had stage experience or not. Some participants in past classes had experience in community theatre, and some had never been been on the stage, Johnson said.

Johnson teaches curriculum classes at Vance-Granville and produces and directs plays with students. He is also active as an actor and director of Granville Little Theatre and the Henderson Rec Players. He plans to teach basic acting techniques and skills in the January class.

Instruction will include theatre games and scene work, but it will be more than acting, Johnson said. “Past experience has shown that the class helped participants with their communication skills and self confidence,” he said.

Classes will be held in the college auditorium in Building 2. There is a $40 registration fee, payable the first night. Registration is on a first-come basis, but the class is limited to 16 students so it is important to pre-register, Johnson said. To do this, call Jerome Johnson at 492-2061, ext. 3371, by Dec. 1.
