Peace Retires from VGCC

Ernestine J. Peace of Henderson recently retired after 32 years of service to Vance-Granville Community College. Her colleagues held a retirement celebration for her on Nov. 25 at the VGCC Civic Center.

Peace started working at VGCC in the fall of 1976, on the very day that the new VGCC campus (today called Main Campus) opened. She started in purchasing in the college’s Business Office, was later promoted to Accounting Supervisor in 1998, and retired as Director of Purchasing. Peace said that she leaves with many happy memories of her VGCC colleagues. She also recalled that the Day Care Center on VGCC’s Main Campus holds a special place in her memory, because her two sons — who now live in Raleigh and Greensboro — graduated from the day care while she worked at the college.

Peace, who earned a bachelor’s degree at Saint Augustine College, has also served as a member of the Advisory board for the Henderson branch of the State Employees’ Credit Union.
