Early College students help VGCC kick off recycling program

Vance-Granville Community College began a college-wide recycling program in November, placing blue recycling bins inside buildings on all four campuses. At VGCC’s Warren County Campus in Warrenton, taking part in the effort to distribute the recycling bins were students of Warren Early College High School , which is located on that campus.

WECHS students who enthusiastically covered the campus in bins included, pictured from left in front, Danielle Brame, Jamaika Alston and Carlos Arrieta; from left on back row, Phillip Bailey, Brittany Jordan and Nethania Lewis. Not pictured: Yvonne Lewis. Among the items that VGCC faculty, staff and students have started recycling are plastic containers, glass containers, aluminum cans and paper.

Warren County Campus dean George A. Henderson thanked the high school students and said, “the Warren Early College High School is an excellent demonstration of collaboration between VGCC and Warren County Schools to improve the outcomes of their at-risk and underrepresented students by challenging students for success.” Warren Early College High School students take both high school and college-level credit classes. At the end of a five-year period, students have the opportunity to graduate from WECHS with both a high school diploma and either a two-year college degree or two years of college-transfer credit.
