College introduces “Ask VGCC” online service

Vance-Granville Community College has introduced a new online tool that aims to help current and future students find the answers to their questions, with a few clicks of a mouse. “ Ask VGCC ,” powered by software called IntelliResponse, is a repository of frequently asked questions (FAQs). Students and visitors to the VGCC web site ( www.vgcc.edu ) will type in a question, such as “How do I get a parking permit?” or “When is the deadline to pay tuition?” An answer will be instantly presented on-screen. The user will be asked “Are you satisfied with your answer?” and will be given links to pages on the VGCC web site that may also have useful information. Users can also browse the top ten questions that other visitors are asking.

“This new system will continuously improve through user input and feedback,” explained Dr. Ken Lewis, VGCC’s Vice President of Information Technology. “Even if ‘Ask VGCC’ does not have a particular answer today, we will know what sorts of questions are being asked, and we will add more and more answers. Over time, the system will become even stronger, giving students and other visitors to our site more power through quick, convenient access to the information they need.”

To try out the new service, go to vgcc.intelliresponse.com or click on the “Ask VGCC” at the top or near the bottom of the home page, www.vgcc.edu .
