Art Class Students To Hold Winter Show In Civic Center

Students in Lelia Brigham’s Tuesday morning art class at Vance-Granville Community College will hold a Winter Art Show March 2-16 in the college’s Civic Center.

Fourteen women and men from Vance, Granville and Franklin counties and from two counties in southern Virginia are preparing art works to depict cultural aspects of their heritage for the show, to be held in conjunction with VGCC’s Cultural Awareness Celebration.

The show will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays in the lobby of the Civic Center. Landscapes, stilllifes and portraits done in a variety of media, including photography, watercolor, charcoal, oils and acrylics will be on display. All works will be available for purchase.

Brigham said the art will include the work of beginners and more experienced, accomplished artists.

Among those scheduled to exhibit their work are Julie Jones and Gayle Duque of Oxford, Wanda Satterwhite of Henderson, Marjorie Starrs of Franklin County, Melinda Ayscue of Louisburg, Virginia Roberson of Lawrenceville, Va., Shirley Coleman of Ebony, Va., and Earl Watkins of South Hill, Va.

The Winter Art Show is the first of two planned by the class during Spring Semester, according to Brigham. A Spring Art Show will be held in May.
