Annual Autumn Arts Show at VGCC Seeks Entries, Announces Cash Prizes

The 29th Annual Autumn Arts Juried Art Show, sponsored by Vance-Granville Community College and the Kerr Lake Art Society, will be held Oct. 3-15 at the college’s Civic Center.

More than $600 in prizes will be awarded for the best original works as chosen by the judges. The Best Work in Show will receive a $200 award. Prizes of

$100 for first place, $75 for second and $50 for third will be given in each of two other categories: paintings and other media. The second category consists of drawings, prints, photography, collages and others. Honorable mentions may also be awarded.

The competition is open to all artists, amateurs and professionals, working in any two-dimensional media. Work must be original, have been produced in the past 12 months, and not previously exhibited in a Kerr Lake Art Society show.

Entries will be accepted at the Civic Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, and Saturday, Oct. 2. Vance-Granville Community College is located at Exit 209 off I-85 between Henderson and Oxford, N.C. Artists may enter three pieces for an entry fee of $15 for Kerr Lake Art Society members or $25 for non-members.

Works may not exceed 36 inches per side, image size. All entries must be framed with no sawtooth hangars. Nontraditional works may be entered without a frame, but they must not exceed 36 inches and must be equipped for hanging.

All work entered must be for sale. Autumn Arts 2004 has commercial and private patrons to purchase art from the show, and it will also encourage sales to the public at the value specified on the entry card. Works entered in the show will remain on display through Oct. 15 when the exhibit ends. The show will be open for public viewing from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays.

A reception hosted by the Kerr Lake Art Society will be held at the Civic Center from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, for artists who have entered the show, those in the area who have a special interest in the visual arts and the press. The winners will be announced at the reception.
